London Flirting

Not too long ago the BBC did a report on the lack of love in the Capital. Apparently we're all too keen on our jobs and not keen enough on long-term relationships. Besides, it's quite difficult to break into new friendships, chat to strangers, ask for phone numbers and follow things to their logical and romantic conclusion, isn't it?

Apparently not.

Last night alone I witnessed the fruits of successful flirtation with my own eyes. My fiance and I were at the Futureheads' gig at the Astoria where we enjoyed a spot of people watching. We looked on as two young men worked the crowds of young ladies around them and at last we were rewarded (although they rather more than we): a shiny new phone number to add to the address book. Good work, young man. Hard effort put in, results achieved. Happily this interesting trend didn't stop at the first year university student. On the train home a girl in her mid- to late twenties got on at Brixton, and alighted at West Dulwich having been relieved of her email address and eight-digits-of-promise by a friendly gent.

Ah, the sweet, sweet smell of successful flirtation. It looks like the Capital's love life isn't approaching the rocks quite yet.
