Milo

The tag line of Milo is "the food drink". Milo is a chocolate malty drink additive that has been around for a very long time here. It has a granular texture (well, some granules, some powder) and is delicious eaten in dry (or semi dry as semele has mentioned) form. When you add Milo to milk, it doesn't fully dissolve and leaves a floaty crunchy layer on the top of the milk which you eat with a spoon. I suppose some folk would eat it at the beginning of the drink but I prefer to leave it til the end. Milo is high in vitamins and minerals, hence my comment that I may have overdosed on certain nutrients a few days ago (one serve provides 50% of the RDI of iron... although I'm not sure how much is absorbed....).

Hot milo is a staple supper on kids camps. When served hot, the granules dissolve completely. This gives a different experience but is also good. For catering purposes it comes in 2kg tins. I used to have these at home in the glory days.

Other uses for Milo include: sprinkling it on top of ice cream, adding it to Rice bubbles to give a Coco Pops impersonation (not the same but still good), using it in baking when you have run out of cocoa... adding it to other foods that could do with a chocolate hit.
