a wibventure

The day dawned sort of grey and damp. Not too warm either. A text message from Dee told me that Miss Lisa had recommended a jumper be brought. I packed it in my backpack. Along with my sudoku book, a hair brush (necessary on a damp day to control frizz), my wallet and my camera. Walked the second half of the way to the station then caught a train to the meeting point. Alerted Dee that I was in position then played the waiting gam.

It rained. A lot.

Dee arrived 5 minutes ahead of schedule! We set off on a voyage of discovery.

It was a fairly uneventful journey to the Southern Highlands. There was not much traffic and it rained just enough to require wiping of windscreen but not enough to warrant turning the windscreen wipers on. Annoying that.

Arrived at Casa de Lisa right on schedule. Was greeted by two dogs (one medium, one large), two parents and of course one Miss Lisa. Cue joyful reunion (Dee and Lisa/family/dogs) and introductions (yay and Lisa/family/dogs). 'twas a very warm welcome. Lisa has lovely parents. And dogs.

Sat down to a cup of tea while making plans. A three point plan was hatched. A trip to the Mount Gibraltar lookout, lunch and a trip to the Berkelouw book barn. With a few other stops thrown in.

1. The lookout. We drove through some very LOTResque scenery to get to the lookout. See it was quite misty. Which is different to fog. Very pretty. There was a very nice looking bus shelter on the side of a cliff. The view... well I'll let the pictures tell the story about that. You'll have to wait a few days for them howevere because I don't feel like posting them now. Anyway, no-one fell over the cliff and I think I would like to sit in the bus shelter one day and commune with nature. It was very peaceful.

2. Next stop Historic Berrima. This is the sort of town where bus loads of little old ladies go to buy jams and tea towels. Confectionery, jams and teas were bought. No tea towels however. But all this shopping did give us an appetite so soup, toast and toasted sandwiches were consumed during a rather pleasant lunch. There were a few more stops in Historic Berrima (there is actually no Historic in the official name of the town, I just always think of it as Historic Berrima because it is quite historic. It has the oldest continuously licensed inn in Australia in it. And either the oldest or one of the oldest churches. Or something) then it was off to the book barn.

3. The book barn. Books were bought on a range of topics. Dee went for a bit of crime and trashy holiday reading, Miss Lisa went for chick lit and yay decided on obscure historical medical theories. Quite an interesting selection.

Back to Casa de Lisa for another cup of tea, some tarts and a bit more nattering about all sorts of things and it was back in the car for a rainy trip home. We almost went on Sydney's newest motorway but then remembered that you need an e-tag to go on it and we didn't have one. Actually Dee, my Dad said that we wouldn't have needed one if we paid the toll on the M5 (which we did) so maybe it would have worked. Ah well, next time.

Summary: a good time was had by yay and I think by Dee and Miss Lisa.
