I seem to have had quite a few google hits on this topic. So I'll explain it. You get out your imaginary scissors and you cut the word in two!
Sphygmo + manometer
So sphygmo is pronounced as though it is spelt sfigmo and manometer sort of rhymes with thermometer. Easy!
