a bit of good weirdness

Today I arrived home from uni and found a letter for me from the uni. Nothing odd about that. At this time of year it's usually a piece of paper saying how much I owe the government or how much the uni has told the government that I owe them or how much I have paid the uni or other such thing. But this letter contained a cheque for $425! A refund of student fees said the piece of paper. Now why would they do that? Voluntary Student Unionism commence in July but a) they would not refund fees without me asking and b) they should only refund half the fees.

I called the fees office to enquire about this cheque... had there been a mistake? Was it really mine? The person in the fees office told me that because I have paid five years of union and sports fees, I am entitled to a refund on these because they have my union life membership number. But because they have refunded me, this means that I've only paid 4 years does it not? I mentioned this (I need a clear conscience... and also I don't want them to call me back and ask for their money back) and she couldn't explain it but told me to go and bank the cheque. So I did. Not bad eh?
