lower limb anatomy

So this morning was our first anatomy lab. This week we looked predominantly at lower limbs although we did do a bit of shoulder work.

I was pleased at how little smell there was. I don't know how they preserve all the bits but they didn't smell at all. From what people with an anatomy background had told me, I'd thought it would be very stinky.

It also wasn't particularly gross or scary or anything. I think it would be more disturbing if the bits still had their skin on but most of that had been removed (there is not enough time in our course for us to get our own cadaver and start from scratch). There was one flap of hairy skin at the top of our leg which was confusing me for a bit. Then I realised that it was a male leg... and everything had been sliced right down the middle (the saggital plane in fact!)... ohhhhh now I get it! Could someone please hold that er bit out of the way so I can look at where the femoral artery goes please!?

But yeah, our bodies are pretty cool really.
