well how about that?

So yesterday a reader from some place near England where they talk funny ("which one!?" I hear you cry!) brought up the topic of my petrol nightmare. For those in America or other such places, by petrol, I mean what you refer to as gas. And I've just realised why "gas" is incorrect for the fuel we put in cars. It's a liquid dammit! Unless it's LPG or something. But usually it's not.

So anyway, this reader explained to me that even at $1.69/L, petrol in Australia would STILL be cheaper than in the UK. It's the equivalent of about $2.20/L there. Crazy! Madness! Has it always been twice as much as the rest of the world? (well other than places with significant oil deposits of their own where they give away a tank of petrol when you buy an ice cream at the service station)
