the power of suggestion

This morning we had two lectures. The first was on sensory innervation of the head and neck. About half way through this lecture I started to get a headache, behind my left ear and up a bit. By the end of the lecture I knew that this was not due to pain receptors sending signals to my brain via the trigeminal nerve but because C2/C3 cervical spinal cord sensory fibres were annoyed. If the pain had been in front of my ear, then it would be the trigeminal nerve.

There was a 1.5 hour break in which I did approximately nothing but sit on a stone wall with a couple of friends and watch the world go by. Every so often the more diligent of my friends would make noises about doing some study, however the other friend and myself are extremely persuasive when it comes to the art of procrastination and managed to talk her out of such silliness.

Then there was another lecture which was actually a series of role plays with a professional actor acting as someone with a pethidine problem. The character wanting pethidine wanted it for a "migraine". By the end of the session my localised behind the ear headache had spread to the rest of my head. I could have done with a shot of pethidine.

After that (the session, not the pethidine - I wasn't successful) I went home via the little takeaway/milkbar/etc shop that I like. I purchased a freshly made roast beef and salad roll and asked the lady who made the creme caramel that I had from there last week because it was delicious. Oh yes and the rice pudding. And the baklava. And the chocolate fudge cake. And lemon meringue tarts. She and her husband make all those things and she was very pleased that I like them. Next time I will try the lemon meringue tart I think.
