oh yes, there has been a development

Two mornings ago I woke up at 4:45. By 6, I'd had enough of being awake and not vertical. I discovered that my milk (1% fat)was off and my second choice of milk (the brother's - full fat) was also off. The mother's milk is not an option (soy). The father's milk (0%* fat) is not an option on a bowl of cereal as the thought of it makes me gag. Yet toast wasn't appealing. As I had 1.5 hours before I had to leave for uni, I realised that I had plenty of time to make porridge. The amount of milk on porridge is minimal and hence it would be ok to use the father's milk. And the brown sugar would help to suppress my gag reflex.

I'd never made porridge on the stove for myself before. I've made it in the microwave (messy and stressful) and on the stove for large numbers of people. But never on the stove for one.

So I used the recipe on the box but divided the quantity (serves "3") in half (half a cup of oats, 1.25 cups water, boil). I added some cinnamon in memory of baked oatmeal. Mmmmm baked oatmeal. I have in the past added salt to porridge. But I think cinnamon works very nicely. Sure it may not be traditional, but since when have I been a slave to tradition?

It was rather good. So I had it this morning as well. And the brilliance of a dishwasher means that no-one has to deal with the scourge of kitchen cleanliness - porridge scum in the saucepan!
