So I was just standing next to the printer, saying what a good and faithful printer it has been - it has seen the family through three theses, the father's work and extra-curricular activities (Scouts and church accounts auditing), the mother's bits and pieces and various other things... with only two new toner cartridges in five years or more. It is a very good printer.
I collected my printings and returned to my room, only to have my desk light go cactus. This light is less than a year old. The problem is probably the bulb, however it's a halogen bulb and I'm not sure that a) a replacement is available or b) the old one is designed to come out. I have managed to remove the glass cover thing, but the actual bulb is held in place with a screw. And to turn the screw, risks shattering the bulb. Which doesn't matter so much as the bulb is not working, but it is also not good to have shards of glass in the guts of a lamp. Or on the floor. Or sticking into my foot.
However shattering the bulb is a risk I'll just have to take because the lamp can't really get any more broken.
The disposability of stuff makes me say things like "back in my day, we had glass milk bottles and we'd leave out the empties for the milkman to pick up!" (this is actually true - yes, and I am a mere quarter of a century old!). If I find that this bulb is not replaceable, I will not be buying this brand again. If it is, I will retract my annoyances and post a photo of it. Unless the bulb costs more than the lamp ($14.95), in which case the deal is off.
