Pooka has arrived

This morning the brother and I went to pick up the dog. It was raining. But that's ok. She likes tasting puddles.

Pooka is a very quiet dog. In fact she hasn't barked at all today. I'm hoping that this isn't because she's been debarked (which is illegal, but puppy farms are not known for ethical treatment of animals). She has also had major surgery in the last 2 days so that would be an incentive not to bark! She is very cuddly and nuzzly. She licks, but doesn't slobber!

She was very well behaved on the way home, and seems to be settling in well. I am currently having "cruel woman" guilt because she is in her kennel in the backyard, and it's cold and wet. But she's asleep, so I'm guessing she's content enough. Once we've worked out her toilet training status, she'll be allowed inside when we're here and not asleep. I have a crate for toilet training purposes, but will need to read my book on the topic before I work out what to do with it to facilitate said training.

Walking on a lead is not one of her accomplishments yet... for every metre I cover, she probably goes about four. I can't see her being a guide dog at this point!... but she is still young and probably quite stressed from all the changes from the last few weeks. So we'll give her a few days to settle in and work out what's what before starting on training for that sort of stuff.
