A lot can happen in half an hour

Right. So last night my brother and I both received phone calls from our beach mission people-in-charge saying that a guy at mission had meningococcal and glandular fever ("mono" to US readers... if there are any) and we should get ourselves checked.

So this morning at 8:54 I called the surgery and asked if my doctor had any appointments. "Can you get here in 6 minutes?" the receptionist asked. I made it there in 5 and she was most impressed. Had my appointment, got a script for me AND one for my brother then was home at 9:20. Called my mother (a pharmacist) to tell her I wasn't going to die and ask her if I should take the drugs. She was sceptical like me. Then she called back in 5 minutes to say the doctor had called her (hello! what happened to confidentiality? I am twenty two!) with an afterthought regarding dose and she had asked him if he thought I should take the drugs and he thinks I should.
