Tonight at bible study I had a rubber band around my bible and frankly, I'm sorry I didn't do this earlier. It functions as a bookmark, a pen holder, a makeshift guitar, a keeping-awake-during-prayers agent and then at the end can be used to secure my phone and other possessions to the bible whilst still keeping my place in 1 Corinthians (although I'm sure it would work for other books as well) for next time. Amazing. Everyone should get one.
