"Indicator" boards

Indicator boards at railway stations have something of a misnomer. They should be called "Hopefully boards" or "Perhaps boards". I have noticed on the tv screen boards used at city stations, that when the train is due (and hence the how many minutes to go spot is blank), there is a permanent "3 Minutes" burnt into the screen. Why three minutes I wonder? Is it because at 2 minutes to go you would definitely know about it because you would feel the wind coming down the tunnel in front of the train but 4 minutes sounds like a bit long and "Buggered if we know" is possibly a tad vague?

What also amazes me is when the trains seem to keep overtaking each other on a single line. How is this possible? One minute they are supposed to arrive in timetable order, then for the next 10 minutes they all switch around until eventually one turns up that wasn't meant to come at all. It's all very odd really.
