computers

Today I had a computer repair guy spend SIX HOURS at my work trying to get our network going again after a hard drive died on one of the computers. Time taken to replace copy all the files onto a new hard drive and install drive = ~1 hour. Time faffing around because "I didn't think you'd be able to restart all the computers" FIVE HOURS. Pharmacy networks are generally not particularly good because I think they're designed by pharmacists who have no idea about computers. So when the computer that is linked to the cash drawer isnt going, the rest of the network decides it's all too hard and maybe it will just have a little rest for the day.

This guy had absolutely no idea. It was so obvious to me that he needed to restart all the computers (I don't know if this is common to all networks but you have to shut down and restart everything to get up and running again after major surgery on one of the computers). Now we couldn't get anything done anyway because the rest of the system was so unstable yet he faffed around and got in the way all afternoon because it didn't occur to him to even ASK if it could all be restarted.

Very frustrating.
