Well. It's over. We all scrubbed up quite nicely. No-one fell over going down the aisle. No-one froze to death (although we did come close at some points). Many photos were taken. I suppose that if a) one turns out nicely and b) I can work out how to put it up here, I might include one here for anyone who's interested. We'll see.
So yes. The day started at quarter to eight when Lauren and I arrived at our hair person's house. We had hot spiky things poked into our hair and funny things tied around our heads. We all then jumped in the car (well, eased ourselves in, being careful not to compromise the hot rollers) and headed off to the bride's house where she and the other bridesmaid would hopefully be waiting.
Sat around a table and ate chocolate croissannts while people fiddled with my hair. Then got to be the make up guinea pig while the make up person worked out what to do. Once that was done I was sent to the shops (wearing jeans and a jacket and with my hair and face looking lovely) to buy milk, chocolate and mints. Only ran into one person I knew.
Back at the house the photographer had arrived and we all had to get frocked up. At this point I also took off my rainbow socks (the sort with toes in them) so as to practice walking in my shoes. To my relief I found that I was quite stable.
The wedding convoy consisted of a Jaguar and a Tarago (are Tarago's an Australian thing? If so, they were an 8 seater van popular in the 1980s. A newer model came out in the 90s and this was one of those). I had never seen a wedding Tarago before but it struck me as a very sensible option.
Next thing I knew we were at the church and I made it down the aisle in one piece. Stood up, sat down, held arms and walked out at the appropriate times, then successfully mingled whilst smiling for photoes.
The bridal party departed for photos - this is where the Tarago came in very handy - the bridesmaids and groomsmen all fitted!! We went to a local park (see link at left) and made a spectacle of ourselves. I think people must go to that park on Saturday afternoons just to watch wedding parties having their photos taken. They all stopped what they were doing to watch.
By this stage it was starting to get somewhat chilly. Remember that in Sydney it is technically winter now and we were all wearing strapless dresses and open toed shoes. Sure it was still warmer here than England today but still. I was cold.
Finally the photographer stopped taking photos and it was reception time.
I can't be bothered to talk about the reception much. Lots of talking, speeches, food... it was good.
The End.
