A few weeks ago I was talking to my asst minister about how his sermons are too long. He begged to differ and compared it to uni lectures. I pointed out that I didn't actually listen to uni lectures if I did actually go to them because my attention span is not 5 hours long (yes ladies and gentlemen, we had 5 hour blocks of lectures). Anyway, he grudgingly shaved a couple of minutes off his next few sermons but they've been creeping up again lately.
Well anyway, last night at a 21st, my brother was talking to the same asst minister. What did he say? "Your sermons are too long". Dave (I think all Sydney anglican ministers are called Dave) must have thought I'd put him up to it. But no! I had never mentioned this to my brother! Dave asked why it was only people in our family who complained. My brother replied that we're the only ones who are honest.
Tonight Dave was preaching and my brother and I were both sitting in the front row (for some reason the musicians all decided to sit in the front row tonight... very odd. Never been done before). I was very concerned that there would be a snide comment made about our attention spans or lack thereof. But no. This is a good thing.
