bus etiquette

Ok so on the bus this morning there were approximately 6 people. No, make that exactly 6 people. So you can probably visualise that there would be a lot of seats free. A lot. Whole seats. Not just bits of seats. This old lady and her son get on the bus. He sits a few rows behind me on the opposite side of the aisle. She sits next to me. Right next to me. On my seat. What is with that?! It was not a particularly "good" seat - no more accessible or desirable than any other seat (eg. the one her son was sitting on). They were definitely together because she kept turning and talking to him. Sadly not in English so I couldn't hear her say "Do you think I've freaked this poor girl out enough yet?".

What is the world coming to I ask you?
