I'm so excited

Today the friendly constables who I called last week during the crime wave came back to visit me and asked me to come and make a formal statement at the police station! Hurrah! So I am off to the police station tomorrow morning.

While the friendly constables were there I asked them to witness me destroying some expired drugs of addiction. These drugs must be destroyed under the supervision of the police or a pharmacy board inspector. Pharmacy board inspectors are very hard to get hold of. So I had quite a lot of stuff - heaps of morphine tablets and capsules, some ADHD drugs and a few other bits and pieces. The mode of disposal as I understand it is to tip liquids down the sink with heaps of water and you crush up tablets and dissolve them in lots of water and flush them down the sink as well. As there were a lot of tablets I asked the friendly constables to help pop them all out into the mortar. So there you have two friendly constables and Yay and another assistant standing around a mortar popping pills. The constables were a bit concerned about the impression this gave to the general public and did not seem keen for a photo opportunity...

I had trouble when it got to the dissolving step however. I tried water and that took away a lot of it, but there were still some slow release dealies that wouldn't dissolve. So I added some alcohol. Which no doubt would have had interesting effects on the overall toxicity of the mixture. Lots of things dissolve in alcohol. But not slow release morphine granules. Then I had a brainwave! They dissolve in the stomach (don't worry, this isn't going where you think it is) which is an acidic environment. So I looked on my shelf and found a pot of salicylic acid powder. I added this in and it all turned into a lovely sludge. Hurrah!

So a fun day was had by all.
