a busy day

Right. To set the scene, today was hotter than yesterday. This is never good for my productivity levels. It took me a while to get to work as I refuse to catch trains or buses that are not airconditioned. Thankfully my employers accept "I was waiting for an airconditioned bus" as an excuse for slight tardiness. During the course of the morning a little old lady called me and asked if I could send down her ear drops with "the boy" this afternoon. Certainly! And which ear drops would they be? Well it's written on the script and she's holding it but can't read it. Righto. I'll come down and pick it up. So I bought myself a tube of sunscreen (it was around 40 degrees at this point), applied it, waited 20 minutes, then set off via the dentist's surgery where I had to drop off his medications. I found myself making an appointment for a check up while I was there. I haven't been to a dentist for a good 5 years so this was done with much trepidation. Anyway, traipsed on down to pick up the prescription, had a little chat, then set off for work again. I was intercepted by another one of my patients who insisted that I come inside for a cool drink. Fair enough. It would be rude to refuse. Had a nice chat for 15 minutes then thought I should go back to work. "I had to have lemonade with Mrs F" is thankfully an acceptable excuse for taking half an hour to do a 10 minute walk.

Kept self occupied with various sedentary activities til dentist o'clock. Crossed road with much fear and trembling. Was somewhat reassured by the dentist's explanation of his no hurting people policy. Hurrah. Lots of fun and games during the check up (he has two nurses... very funny girls... both in there at once). No immediately apparent major problems. However he sent me off to get a full x-ray to check out the wisdom teeth situation (which is really why I've been avoiding dentists for 5 years). Trotted over to the medical centre and spent the other half of my lunch break waiting for an x-ray. The odd thing is though that neither the trip to the dentist or the x-rays cost me anything. Strange.

More sedentary activities in the afternoon. Then popped next door to get a drink. Saw that the shop next door had trays of mangos for $14. This worked out to 70c/mango. And they were very good ones. Bargain. Bought a tray for my poor starving family. Was then sent back to get another tray for my boss. Decided I'd had enough of work and went home. Carrying my 20 mangos. Gah those things are heavy. Waited for half an hour for a train. The train that arrived was too full. And not airconditioned. So waited for the next one. Arrived home too tired to carry my mangos in from the car. Hurrah for brothers!

The End.
