TOBM #5: Amenities (Warning - possible TMI alert!)

Toilet/shower blocks are located in three places. One is behind the shed, one in Siberia, and one behind the posh cabins (but obviously used by people from nearby tents - the posh cabin residents have their own bathrooms). If you are any good at mental maps, it might occur to you that none of these are particularly close to the Scripture Union site. This is correct. The closest amenities are a 3.5 minute walk away. The further ones 5-6 minutes.

This year, the park management asked us not to use the toilets and showers nearest us due to the plumbing not coping with the numbers. We negotiated this to be not using the showers before 10pm and only using the close toilets in... er... emergencies. As a cook, and hence not constrained by the normal rules, I tended to only use the far away blocks for showers. How would the park management feel if everyone's dinner was burnt because I was away for half an hour finding a friendly toilet block?

20 cent coins have very special significance at beach mission time. 20c = 3 minutes of hot water. I usually tend to have 40c showers. On bad days it might be 60c. I get bored with 80c. Scripture Union decrees that we aren't allowed to sing in the showers. Inside tip: for the ultimate shower experience, go to the showers behind the posh cabins during team siesta time (once again, cook's privilege - siesta is compulsory). At this time there is no-one else in the showers. This means great water pressure and plentiful hot water. The posh cabins showers have the nicest water. For some reason the Siberia showers smell...

Another tip is to have a permanently packed shower bag. This has all your shower stuff, your little bag of 20c pieces, a change of clothes, your shower shoes and a towel. It can be grabbed whenever the opportunity for a shower arises. No faffing around!

Third tip: don't drink anything after dinner time. Let alone gin and tonics which seem to have a diuretic effect.
