This year I was given the job of first aid person. I think this is because I get a 20-25% discount on first aid kit stuff. But it may also be because I'm like a pharmacist and first aid qualified and stuff.
Man it was fun! Had loads of different things - the usual cuts and grazes, rashes, bites (insect, not human), headaches etc and then some more fun ones - the girl who split her face open in a touch footy collision, a few tick cases (including one in the groin of a lovely boy - "here, kill it with Rid, remove it with these tweezers and the probe and let me know how it goes"... I then made him a drawing ointment to remove a few remaining bits), a child spraying horse insectide in his face, a large lump on a knee caused by a surfboard fall, a child who fell off his bike and was stabbed by his handlebar, some sore eyes, allergies, other minor illnesses... was great. People also liked having an enthusiastic first aider. They would come in shouting "First Aid! First Aid!" and I would say "oooh!!! Any blood?!?" and kick whoever was sitting in my first aid chair out of it. Unless they were still being treated, in which case I would kick someone else out of a chair. At one point I had three patients at once. I think I would have had around 50 patients over the 11 days.
I even had a first aid fan club. Some of the trendy teenage campers came up to our site yesterday shouting "First aid! First aid!". I went out all excited and they said "We don't need first aid. We just wanted to meet you. You've done some really sick (ie. good :D) stuff. Especially on G's face!".
