Art on university campuses is not known for being cutting-edge. In fact most of it is shite. However it usually works its way into our good books as the months pass, simply because it's a shape we pass every day. It becomes part of our lives in the end. It's actually surprisingly difficult to photograph sculpture. It's ages since I've tried taking proper photos. This is the rusty lamp. I don't know what it's really called - maybe it's not art at all. Maybe it's just a lamp. Anyway, it's great. :)

This is "Maternity" by George Wyllie. I'm pretty sure the bird at the top rotates as a weathervane. the safety pin/maternity thing is about its situation in Rottenrow Gardens, which were built on the site of the old Rottenrow Maternity Hospital.
