I've been fascinated by a series of articles on the issues surrounding the procurement of antiquities at the J. Paul Getty Museum. A previous curator resigned in disgust in 1986 over the museums "curatorial avarice", accurately predicting that eventually there would be an external investigation and a foreign government would be knocking on its door demanding their antiquities back. Well, the future is now. The antiquities curator that replaced the person who resigned in disgust over the Getty's policies facing trial in Rome for trafficing in looted antiquities.
