Washing powder

I've just washed my clothes in soap, bicarb soda, lemon juice and eucalyptus oil, We'll see how we go.

My quick internet research, a glance at lots of pages, told me use less, use soap and bicarb soda and don't use borax.

So I put a little soap and the same amount of bicarb soda in a metal bowl and poured in the hot water. The bubbles fizzed up to over the top of the bowl, which I tried to pick up to hold over the washing machine. It was very hot, so I put it back down and resigned myself to cleaning up the mess. The bubbles rose like a mushroom top but never went over the edge of the bowl. Yay.

I don't know what the bi carb does. The lemon juice is to keep whites white, the eucalyptus oil is to remove grease.

The borax, although a natural trace element, is toxic in large amounts - like the cup fulls that are recommended for washing.

Two of my chooks never came back from their free ranging, my vege garden is all nicely dug over with lots of chicken poo and my guinea pig is about to give birth (that's what I said last week too, still no babies) All is going well.
