new compost

I've started composting! I took my sprouted lentils, which smelt like rotten egg, and dumped them on a pile of straw and covered it with more straw. Done! I'll see what else I can find to dump there. There's not much by the time the chickens, guinea pigs and worms are feed.

I've been reading some permaculture books. We're now planning to build a few more vege gardens. It is suggested these be as close to the house as possible. Then, a little further from the house the animals (chickens) then fruit trees, so chickens can scratch underneath, then we hope to add a little indigenous forest. We've pretty much got that anyway, so a few more plantings, and we'll be growing a little more of our food.

I planted carrots today. Ugh! Planting carrots is about as fun as planting leeks. Hundreds of them. Not fun.
And I planted some nice flat flowers in with the carrots so that wasps and flies can sit in the sun on the flowers looking for nice bugs to eat off my veges.

One of those days when I say, what on earth am I doing, I am no good at this, I am hopeless. So I went to McDonalds and ate a burger, which nearly made me cry when I read on the wrapper how many million tonnes of beef they buy (from local producers of course.)
