I've just been to a violin concert. I walked past the school gym, and it sounded so beautiful that I went and stood in the doorway. There was kids aged 3 - 18 all lined up in their classes playing away. And it sounded wonderful. So much better than any CD, which is really the only way I've ever heard violin. I have this image of 19th century England with people all dressed up sitting around in the parlour listening to friends play. I can see now why that would actually be an attractive option. And not just because there's no T.V.
