It's nice to walk into a room and maybe find _your_ cat.
Dee's right. Finding someone else's cat is annoying. We had someone else's cat who would come in our cat door and terrorise our cat. One day, unbeknowst to me, I locked said someone else's cat underneath the house. Everynight for a week I'd hear this 'meow' following me around the house. It got fainter as the week went on. After it was discovered and released it didn't visit anymore.
