1. Deal with each item only once. Don't move it from the kitchen to the desk when it belongs in the bedroom. Good plan...

2. Put things away as soon as you're finished with them. Yeah, like this one really works. Not.

3. Put the washing on the couch or bed so that it has to be sorted before you can sit down. The problem is, washing is actually very comfy to sit in. It moulds to your body.

4. Pick everything off the floor and put into an empty basket. Shove basket in a wardrobe or behind the couch. Until you need something and have to pull out all the baskets.

5. Get angry. This one actually worked but not ideal. Wait until someone grumps about mess. Be patient, it might take a few months. Get very angry and take out it out on the mess. Storm around the house putting everything away. Lot's of energy expended. A great workout.

6. 30 second rule. If it takes less than 30 seconds to deal with it, do it now. This one was crap. Nothing takes more than 30 seconds to deal with. 20 minutes later I was still seeing jobs that would only take 30 seconds.

7. Hire a cleaner. Cleaners only clean, they don't tidy. I don't think whoever suggested this understood that it's not dirt that's a problem. Dirt is good. It boosts your immune system. Clutter is the problem.

So there you have it. I've listed out my problem. Clutter.
Gotta love a list.
