Some things I've learnt about sub-culture mission #1, 2 and 3.

#1 - It's easy.
Grab some friends, get out there, and join in. Go straight to the centre of the community and offer to get involved. Like is happening over at A heartbreaking work of staggering tiredness. Sounds cool. Then hang out. A lot. Listen, listen, ask questions, learn, listen.

#2 - It's hard.
I'm guessing if you've been involved in any missional/emerging/sub-culture church plant type thing you were shaking your head a few seconds ago. It is hard. People out there just don't act like churchy Christians do. Sometimes that's a very good thing. But it can be so nice and safe and warm and accepting when you've Christian friends around.
The core of my little community is burning their relational bridges between each other. I'm in the middle, both arms outstretched, holding them together. I'm trying to bring calm and patience and understanding to the way we all relate to each other. I think it's working. But really, there is cause for concern 'cos the job's not getting done, to the jeopardy of our community. What am I do about that without hurting anybody?

#3 - Don't do it alone.
Allow others to see the love of God in operation between his disciples. Add credibility to the message with a group of people who believe it and live it out before others. Use giftings and personalities together to represent the body of Christ. Bring encouragement to keep going, a different perspective to issues, and accountability to each other. I knew it when I first started and it was confirmed when I went searching for answers from people who have been there before me. _So why am I still doing it alone._ I've got lot's of people who want to hear how I'm going, but no-one in the trenches with me. Time to start asking people to join me. Time to seek out the answers of the people who were interested and decided to 'pray about it.' Time to hit the
campaign trail.

P.S. I had a great day today. Threw on my clothes and got on with the day. Dishes done, floor clean, no guilt about blogging. I even made my own gnocchi to have with my own pesto. Best gnocchi I've ever tasted. flylady explains the clothes out in the morning thing.
