Australia Day, a chance to celebrate all things Australian by ignoring anything official and doing whatever we feel like doing. Which is probably gardening, renovate houses, visit friends, swim, and drink beer whilst standing around the Barbeque, before drifting towards the tele to watch the cricket and tennis.
Thanks to Rhys who had an Australia Day greeting on the front page when I woke up this morning. Good timing.
A few quotes from the household, "What is Australia Day anyway?"
"No one really knows, it's just a chance to have another holiday."
If you're interested you can check out About Australia Day I might do that later, to see what it's all about.
and the Aussie Slang Dictionary so you can speak like a real Aussie.
The forecast was 39 C (102 F). Anticipating that heat is, I think, worse than being in it. Forecast this morning is now 36 C (97 F) I'm so relieved. My Australia Day activites include visiting friends, swimming in a round, blue, above ground backyard pool and throwing a coupla snags on the barbie.
snag
noun:- a sausage or a problem. UK = banger.
It was the day scheduled for our neighbourhood BBQ but it was too hot, and school starts tomorrow after the summer holidays, so all the little kiddies need to be in bed early. Not that anyone will sleep in this heat.
