Well hello there everyone.
I'll put that last short lived lent episode behind me for a little, although I should reflect on it a bit. In my mind I seem to be skirting around the edges of the whole aborted lent experience. I will continue with the Sacred Space prayers and look forward to hot cross buns, and planning our passover.
I have the Christ candle from my advent candles burning next to the computer. It is reminding me of Christ's presence. It smell nice. Or in religious language, it has a beautiful fragrance.
I went to a religious, preach-and-convert, evangelism meeting. 5 minutes before it was to begin I invited my neighbour to come with me. We went. I found the whole experience cringe worthy, and way too churchy. My neighbour on the other hand loved it. Where I shook my head as the preacher yelled at evil spirits, my neighbour was amazed at the thought of what this guy must be perceiving to be happening in the spiritual realm, and said, "He must know some stuff."
There was a great testimony from a lady who was into the new age. She had a philosophy of using the best practices from every religion to obtain self fulfillment. When she realised that the lives of her teachers did not reflect their own teachings, she immersed herself in what she called 'normal life.' After a while, she said she felt like she was dying. So she called out to God, and sent a cry for help into the cosmos. The next day in her letter box she got a flyer from a church that said, "I Jesus have come to give you life." So as strange as she thought that was, that Christianity with all it's lovely, nice, soup serving, smiling, but spiritually unaware Christians would have the answer, she went to church. Eventually, after many many questions, she became aware of the supreme authority of Jesus in the spiritual realm, and she was filled with light.
I loved her language. I would like to talk like that. I guess I'd better find some people to teach me their new age spiritual language, so I can start talking about Jesus in a way that can be understood around here.
I went back to the evangelism thing (it runs for weeks). This time the preacher dude was very gentle, even when talking about breaking the influence of evil. And the band was pretty cool. They had an artist, who is a member of the band, who paints what ever she thinks God wants her to paint whenever the band plays. And they had cool drums and ancient instruments. And really talented. It's amazing the difference to the sound when there's real skill behind it.
