We had the most amazing baby welcoming ceremony amongst the trees at our place. We hung out all day, then gathered up the back for the tree planting. We (big family gathering) all discussed possible planting sites, chatting whilst eating home grown fruit, as first one person, then another dug holes. The placenta was buried under the tree chosen by the baby's mother and planted by the baby's father. Then we stood in a circle to each hold the baby and speak out our hopes or dreams or well wishes for her. It was so beautiful, and so natural, without very much ceremony, and meaningful. I held her and anointed her with oil, making the sign of the cross on her forehead. Others wished her passion for causes, and colour in her life. I pray that she will be filled with the love of God, to enable her to give this love out to others, as she works to make the world a fairer place for people.
