My second Orthodox church service

I attended the Orthodox Church again tonight. Now I know where the saying, "bells and smells", usually, "I don't go in for all that 'bells and smells' ceremony and tradition stuff" comes from. The little holder thing with the incense in it has 12 bells on it, one to represent each apostle. When the incense is waved about at various times in the service, (I'm sorry I don't know what that means yet, but I'm sure there is a reason) the church is filled with the smell of incense and the ringing of bells.

I spent less time taking in all the strange and wonderful things going on around me and more time reading the words this time. I couldn't remember saying these words last time, although I must have. I still can't remember any, apart from singing, "Lord, have mercy" about 20 times. It may have been more. I wish I could sing it for you, cos the repeated simple tune is really quite beautiful.

Lord, have mercy.
