Food Co-ops

We had an interesting little discussion about Food Co-ops today. Our food co-op is 13 families who order in bulk from wholesalers, and then sort out the food between us at someone's house.

Someone mentioned that Co-ops in the UK are supermarkets, and a friend in the US calls her local health food store a co-op. What's your definition of Food Co-operative.

Lentil pilaf with balsamic vinegar tonight. mmmmm. Might go and have some for a late night supper.

Had a chat about quinoa (otherwise known as Keenwa). It's a complete protein food, sit down for a meal of it and you've got all the protein you need. And I have noticed when I cook it with rice, that it fills us up pretty quickly. Still not convinced, it's a bit bitter, but if you cook it with wine it's supposed to be nice. Rice is getting hard to get now, so quinoa it might have to be.

It was raining again today. 8 days of rain. How much longer can it go on? Hopefully for a few more weeks. Possibly that would reach the water supplies - but it's hard to tell, the grounds so dry it might take a while to actually filter through.
