Well folks, I finally met Ian, which was wonderful.
Ian struggled into a talk on "What is Orthodoxy?" Recognising him from photos I stuck out my hand to introduce myself. Then the talk commenced, and Ian left looking very green, while someone jumped up and followed, and then came back to call for the first aider! Meeting me must have been too much for the poor chap.
It was great to meet Ian. He was very friendly even though he wasn't feeling well. His friends from church are a really friendly bunch, and they all get on together so well. They're all a lot of fun.
I think I'll become Orthodox so I can hang out with all these cool people. They are so full of life! The priests are called 'Father' but that doesn't seem to distance them from anyone. People seemed to feel fully confident in going up for a chat or 'a deep and meaningful'. I guess I was surprised at how natural and friendly everyone was with the priests. And one priest, standing up there in his long black robe, thick Arabic accent, was soooo funny. My lungs hurt from laughing so much after his talk on church history! I guess I thought every thing in the Orthodox church was going to be formal and straight. Goodness knows where I got that idea.
The talks were fantastic, really straight forward. I think I'll give a summary later. Of course talking to a protestant minister this morning was rather difficult, seeing now how every comment is from a protestant worldview. I'm afraid I'm just not there anymore.
Anyway, since I'm in limbo land at the moment, learning all this new stuff about the Christian church, which would seem (but I don't think it really does) to contradict what I've been taught all my life, I sense a few more blog entries coming on.
