I had a strawberry margarita.
And I tried to look up the development of the doctrine of penal substitution (Jesus stood in our place to take the punishment (death) for our sins so God could forgive us). Developed in about 16th century. That's all I know. The Orthodox, who I believe do not believe in the "development of doctrine" (don't go changing Jesus stuff) do not believe in penal substitution. It's a new idea. Unfortunately I can't quite work out what the Orthodox say about why Jesus had to die. Maybe asking "why?" is a western scientific mindset. I know there is an answer. It has something to do with us being held captive to death and Jesus breaking in to rescue us. Probably I shouldn't blog about this stuff until I actually have something to say, but I've gone and done it anyhow.
If you have any idea, let me know!
