Left in the porch unnoticed (why do postpeople find the concept of doorbells so utterly incomprehensible?) was High Society by Ben Elton. Thank you Bantam Press. Only problem was Sarah was there when I opened it, and if she hadn't been I could have wrapped it up and kept it for a very cheap Christmas present.

• A reminder from the PO to send Christmas cards abroad (whom to? Erin?)
• NSPCC appeal
• Pizza Hut delivery menu (pizza yes, delivery certainly, menu by all means, hut nonononono)
• "Important Information Hand Delivered By Your Postman" (As if other junk mail come through the postbox on a conveyor belt. In the bin unopened.)
