Let's just hope this one saves properly. Events of the last 2 weeks:
The Grouch's 50th birthday. Celebrated with church friends, communion, champagne and cake. The latter in the shape of the CORGI logo but reading not Council Of Registered Gas Installers (to which he belongs) but Congratulating One Really Great Individual. It tasted good too. He said he couldn't imagine a better way to mark the occasion. Presents mostly OK though the laptop won't run properly with Ubuntu, which means he's forced very unwillingly to use Vista, but apparently good techie people all over the world are working on the problem.
Genius Brat's SATS exams. He seems to have sailed through with little stress - now all we need is the results. He had another sleepover at his girlfriend's but this time I persuaded her parents to put him in a different room from her! (either they think their daughter is much younger than she is, or they think she's much older - either way I don't think putting a 13 year old and a 14 year old in the same room is that great an idea..)
A week on Iona with Greenbelt folks, over half term. Weather was fabulous except for the day we went to Staffa when it poured and GB slipped on the walkway, hurt himself and was very upset. Island was gorgeous as remembered, but we had to be in separate rooms (Grouch and GB together and myself sharing with a ditsy young woman who came in late every night from the pub). Also we were on the breakfast team for chores which meant getting up early every day. And I was feeling quite alienated from the rest of the group and not really up for instant community. Came home (after 14 hour journey) very tired and low. Went to doc today and got extra anti-depressants.
BTW we finally got our car back just before Iona, after 16 days to do a job they said would take 3.
Nice things in the last couple of days: at the local cottage hospital yesterday (appointment for GB) in the restaurant, I saw the Very Handsome Old Man I occasionally encounter at Tesco, having lunch with his mates. He is at least 70, probably more, but quite stunning with beautiful blue eyes, swept back white hair and a 40s film star moustache. Too shy to smile at him as usual. Secondly, on the way home from the GP today I noticed how beautiful the raindrops were on neighbour's (unidentified) pink flowers and my Rose of Sharon.
Other recent nice things: letter to say I have a US publisher for Crying for the Light. Further really lovely comments about the book from various people. Invitation to do a meditation at Greenbelt based on it (scary but basically good).
Finally, a medical update: a) waiting for appointment with orthopaedic surgeon for investigation of lump on arm; b) appointment next month with dental hospital for further look at painful tongue; c) appointment this Friday at ENT hospital (up road from dental hospital) to be fitted with sensors to investigate possible sleep apnoea; d) osteopath treating knee and lower back, also referring for ultrasound to investigate slow healing of shoulder after my glove-related fall earlier in the year; e) still waiting for cognitive behavioural therapy, 6 months since referral and 4 months since assessment appointment. Phew - I think that's it. No wonder I am feeling stressed.
