What could be better than sitting in the sun at your child's school fete listening to live rock and eating strawberries and cream? I'll tell you: sitting in the sun at your child's school fete listening to live rock and eating strawberries and cream, when someone brings a Pimm's cocktail packed with fruit to your table. (Admittedly I did have to pay £3 for it, but I didn't even have to go up to the bar and get it). I also bought two Ruth Rendell books and a gorgeous red glass charm bracelet which will just go with the old dress I am wearing tonight (having failed, as related yesterday, to buy a new dress). I chatted to various parents I knew, met a new parent whose kid has Asperger's and recruited her to the Inclusion Group, and refused to buy a ring for £30 off GB's Albanian friend (clearly either a millionaire businessman or a crook in the making). And a generally good time was had by all.

By the way we have a babysitter for tonight, though we will have to pick her up from and take her back to Tottenham, as her partner's got the car this evening.
