Methodists put on a good show

Seems like from mid-June onwards, just about every Saturday is summer fete time for at least one local school or church*, if not for several. One has to become selective in what one patronises, don't you know, but in my experience the Methodist garden party is definitely not to be missed. It's not the range or number of stalls (there were only half a dozen or so) but it's the splendour of the gardens, which are not normally open to the public, the quality of the cream teas (waitress service this year!), the high standard of the live music, and the number of friends and acquaintances I can guarantee to bump into. This year there was also a storytelling tent, pony rides on a lovely little white pony for the kids, an excellent Traidcraft stall, some really attractive needlework, a large plant stall and a lavish array of cut flowers.

I came home laden with gifts for all: an audaciously iced cup cake for son, a chive plant for hubby to add to our herb garden, a beautiful little cushion covered with colourful cat material for Granny, and various useful Traidcraft goodies for myself. All that made up for not winning on the tombola (and my pathetic performance at the tiddlywinks stall...)

*(just as, in the well known song that hasn't been written yet, 'every night is home group night for someone'...)
