The way we were

Two evenings ago I found myself in a very old fashioned scene. My husband and son were sitting at the kitchen table gluing together Warhammer models (sort of cross between Airfix and Star Wars), while I stood at the sink and washed dishes and then made dinner. Yes, I know it reproduces old stereotypes and all that, but it felt kind of comfortable. We were all together in one room and no one was on a computer - I felt as though I had stepped back to the 1950s. There is something to be said for it... (cries of 'gender traitor' arise all round...)

Meanwhile, an update on the Week of Excessive Sociability. I made it to the 8.15 am meeting (which the SENCO didn't - she thought it was at 8.30) and the meeting had the desired outcome. Almost had to cancel the lunch date today, however, since Genius Brat announced school was finishing at 1.30 today due to a teachers' strike. However lunch pal's son, who is at the same school, insists it's actually finishing at 2.30. And I have given GB a key just in case (praying he doesn't lose it...). So posh lunch at Kinks-themed pub (this is after all Muswell Hill) is on again.
