Praise God for antibiotics

..and also, actually, praise the people who invented/discovered them. I woke up yesterday in some pain around the lower abdominal region, as Adrian Plass would say, and rapidly found that it hurt like hell to go to the loo and that I was passing blood. I needed to go to the chemist in any case to pick up a prescription, so I bought some over the counter remedy and then, on the pharmacist's advice, went straight to the doctor's which is only about 50 yards further. None of the doctors could see me, but they gave me a sample bottle with which I promptly did what I could, and they said they'd give it to the doctor and he'd send a prescription over to the chemists for me. By the afternoon, when I went down the road again, the chemists had my antibiotics all packed up and ready. Hurrah for the NHS! Now I can go on holiday with confidence.

Unfortunately my plan for yesterday, which included a massage, getting my roots re-coloured and my hair cut, fell into little pieces as my bladder just wouldn't let me do them, so my nice day off dwindled into just getting my hair cut, which didn't involve too long sitting down. Bum. As it were.
