Senior moments

The Grouch and I are now back from our five days in Kent pretending to be retired, while Genius Brat was at his genius camp nearby. We had many pleasant senior moments sitting in pavement cafés in Tunbridge Wells (not being Disgusted), plus National Trust-y sort of cafés at places like Leeds Castle and Sissinghurst gardens. We also spent quality time with The Grouch's over-extended family, which was better than I expected. Dad-in-law and Stepmother-in-law's flat has almost recovered from the gas explosion last autumn, but they are still camping out in the guest bedroom. Stepmother-in-law continues to be much easier to deal with than Original Mother-in-law, may she rest in peace (we visited her grave which is still in a really beautiful place).

My most entertaining moment was in a Beefeater-type restaurant with son just before depositing him at genius camp. He had asked me what I had packed for him, and I had replied 'I didn't pack the Nintendo Wii as you will have no time to play it'. He then pointed out that the Wii would have been too bulky, whereupon I replied, 'I meant to say DS but when I said "Nintendo",
"Wii" came out without my meaning it to.' We then both realized what I had said and sniggered profusely!

Other memorable half-hours include The Thunderstorm From Hell, during which we were fortunately in bed in our superior B&B. At times the lightning and thunder were simultaneous, meaning that the storm was right on top of us, with me slightly worried as to whether our cottage had a lightning conductor.

Since returning, I have had to get used to being a parent again, which has not been helped by GB being in an extremely grouchy mood owing to having gone to bed at 11.45 each night, which he assures me was official bed time at camp (hmmm... do I believe him?).

Might post some photos when I have got them onto Flickr (not of an extremely grouchy GB, which is not worth snapping, but of our holiday).
