And the first law of fireworks is this: any local firework display which is visible across your street will cease at the moment you pay attention to the bangs and fizzes and get up from your desk to see it. And the second law is like unto it: the fireworks will restart at the moment you give up and go back to sit down at your desk again.
Wherefore it is indeed wiser to go to a public display, or have your own, instead of relying on snatched glimpses of your neighbours' Bonfire Night efforts.
