So - today's lesson came from the cover note with a DVD, the much-lauded Black Gold, that I'd ordered from Amazon (and which incidentally features the most beautiful man in the world, Barry Coates, former head of the World Development Movement).
I had always assumed that 'DVD' stood for 'Digital Video Disc'. But according to the cover note, it stands for 'Digital Versatile Disc'. This has set me musing on what alternative uses its versatility might lend itself to. Coaster, obviously; Christmas decoration; emergency mirror (I could have done with one to renew my Goth lipstick at the party last week); maybe pizza cutter, or even spaghetti measurer - the hole in the middle would measure just about one serving, I think. Any further suggestions?
