I'd never come across this concept before until my cousin P mentioned going to the zoo at night in Adelaide.
It's a way to see nocturnal animals and have some fun too!
Alan stayed at the hotel as did another couple but most of us headed out on the short journey in a minibus.
First we had a buffet meal. There was lots of barbecued meat but also some prawns and salad. Good thing I do eat fish or it would have been just the salad. The prawns did have their heads and tails on though.
Good puddings too. I had a slice of meringue with some fruit salad, so a deconstructed pavlova!
Drinks were included and we were soon relaxed and having a laugh.
There were several other nationalities there- a party of Japanese, Koreans,Canadians,a few Aussies too. One Japanese family included a very sweet and sleepy baby.
We collected torches and headed out.
First we sat in a shelter where one of the staff showed us a bandicoot, a koala and Ash the sooty owl.
Next to the reptile house.
One of the staff had a python round his neck and I was brave enough to touch it.
This frog doesn't look real but it is! There were several attractively sitting round a toilet! In a display case.
We saw some crocodiles,
Then we fed some kangaroos.
Refreshed by billy tea we then had more drink, a sing song and a knees up.
I bashed a tambourine to Waltzing Matilda and sang along to Tie Me Kangaroo Down, Sport.
Two couples in our group joined in a lively dance.
Was a fun evening.
I woke early again so here I am blogging.
Off to the reef later today.
