Spent yesterday morning packing, shopping, drinking coffee etc in a leisurely way. Transferred to the tiny airport where for the second time my bags were randomly selected for an explosives check. Did some retail therapy then settled on the plane; I was next to the window. Got this fantastic shot

20120320-083454.jpg Used my iPad on the plane to pass the time doing a sudoku puzzle and reading the Independent. We landed at Cairns after a fair bit of turbulence into what looks like a different country, lush and green, and wet, wet, wet. Our route to the hotel was flooded so we joined a queue on alternative route, taking twice as long as we should have done. Got to the hotel gone 7, having put our watches forward half an hour, It was like walking into a sauna. I've never experienced rain like it. I hadn't comprehended what torrential rain was till now. The walkway to our rooms was awash, though sheltered. The thunder was rolling round.once our cases had arrived we dashed to the bar for a meal. Several of our group were around the only dry table so we joined them. Alan said his barramundi was moist which raised a laugh. We also guffawed at the suggestion it was a clearing up shower. I had 2 glasses of a very good local red. Oh, Neal, you might like to consider a job here. The bar closed at 9.30!
