As I may have mentioned before, I work in the 5th floor of a lovely ugly building in town. What I havn't mentioned is that although our company occupies the 4th & 5th floors, the rest of the building is let to others. On the 2nd and 3rd floors 'others' = the probation office.
Generally this is OK, but it appears that some people on propbation think that the best place to start a fight is in the stair well outside the very place that is responsible for monitoring their behaviour.
There's been a few 'unpleasant incidents' this week. Or so the e-mail sent round our department called them yesterday. I'm not sure what happened on this occassion; in the past there have been fights and people with knives that have meant we were unable to leave the 5th floor via the usual route. Fortunately the fire exit, being a slippery metal staircase on the outside of the building, in never used as a location for these 'incidents'.
Anyway, whatever happened at the start of the week it must have involved an exchange with one of our staff members, because HR at head office have helpfully issued some advice:
Any member of staff concerned about their safety should ensure they are escorted when entering or leaving the building
If any contact with Probation clientele arises remain polite, keep any responses as short as possible and walk away to a more secure area.
I'm pondering which of the hunky men I work with I ought to get to escort me...
