I think that I must be a Very Important Person.
At the end of last week I discovered that the route I take under the underpass (where, I should mention, the birds failed to completely stop the grass growing) has been given yet another layer of tarmac - this time it's red on the paths leading to the centre with green triangular patches filling in rest of the circle so that it looks a little like the spokes on a wheel. In all honestly it's awful, and I've discovered that the colours do something odd to my ability to walk in a straight line... The passes I go though are not directly opposite each other and therefore the shortest route across the sunken circle in the centre of the roundabout does not go through it's centre. However, now that they've marked the paths I seem unable to not walk to the centre and back out again. It's very disturbing... it's almost as if there's an invisble force-field that prevents me walking on the green bits... or rather keeping me on the red path.
This morning as the doors of our newly refurbished lift shuddered open on the 5th floor I saw, in place of the old grey tiles, a new red carpet. I'm slowly becoming convinced that the Powers That Be have decided that I'm so important that my entire route to work must be paved with red, as is done for the Queen.
There's a red carpet in our hall leading from my bed (where I start my route to work) to the front door. I have been considering re-paving my front path with traditional red and black tiles to match the period of the house. And yesterday they started work on re-surfacing the road which I walk along at the start of my journey... if they use red tarmac there it really won't surprise me.
So, friends, please take note, if you want me to visit you ever then a red carpet may be required!
